At approximately 11:00 a.m. today, Town of Lancaster officials were notified of discoloration at the beginning of Scajaquada Creek, originating at Walden Avenue near Cemetery Road.
After investigation, it was determined a red dye used to color mulch leached out of its facilities and found its way into the drainage system that discharges into Scajaquada Creek.
Notification was immediately made to New York State Department of Environmental Conservation officials and all downstream municipalities. Material Safety Data Sheets reveal the color dye is non-toxic and not harmful to humans, fish and wildlife.
